Dua Lipa Makeup & Hair Tutorial

DUALIPAAAA.jpg

I saw a picture of Dua Lipa a few months ago but I got her confused with Emily Ratajkowski. It wasn’t until Jennie (of Black Pink) mentioned her in a V Live video that I actually discovered her music. And I have fallen hard. Everything about her musical style, video direction and overall aesthetic is beyond amazing and feels so fresh. Her makeup and hair are of course always looking great, so I thought I would share with you guys my interpretation of it.

Prep: So I’ve sprayed some heat tamer and applied a dime sized amount of oil into my hair. We’re going to create some texture with this, so I don’t want to mess with it too much later on.

Texture: While my hair is still damp from the products, I’m grabbing small pieces of hair and twisting it away from my face. I’m gathering all of the twist together and pulling it into a small side bun. I will usually put on my makeup or go eat breakfast for at least 30 minutes to let this dry and set.

ReleaseOnce my hair has dried, I’m releasing the buns and lightly brushing out the curls with my fingers. I already created a lot of texture in my hair which is exactly what we’re going for, but my ends look messy and are going in all directions so I’m going through with my flat iron and just straightening the ends.

Wavy curls: Because of the texture we’ve created, I don’t need to curl all of my hair so I’m not going to bother at all with sectioning my hair. I’m selecting random pieces of hair and curling 1/2 a rotation away from my face at the top, and then 1/2 a rotation towards my face midway down.

Curls to waves: So the very left pictures shows how my hair looks like at this point. You can choose to finish off with hairspray or setting spray and be done or you can lightly brush it out to get messy, bedhead waves similar to Dua Lipa’s signature look.

Because I recently bleached and dyed my hair, I’m trying minimize the amount of times I shower in a week. This is my go-to-styling technique lately because it’s simple, quick and wears really well for a couple of days.

I haven’t exactly figured out how to best photograph the makeup tutorial, so this blogpost only covers the textured wave look. Hopefully by my next tutorial I’ll have this sorted, but for now please check out my tutorial below for the pinky brown, smokey eye look.

Also, I’ve recently done a complete rebranding of my social media networks. Please check all the links in my sidebar to join my on my hair/travel/life journey and keep up with what I’m filming next. I have a ton of videos planned, but if there’s anything you guys want to see just leave a comment down below or send me an email/tweet.
